Volunteer in Nepal

Teach English – Teaching English can be a rewarding way to get to know the community and help children learn a very useful skill. Public education is a relatively new concept in Nepal - it began in 1951 and continues to face challenges. Teachers and community members have been working hard to ensure the success of their education system but they lack funds. Volunteers are an invaluable asset to these institutions. English teachers teach vocabulary, lead basic writing exercises, and coordinate activities and games. ELI has partnered with a number of dynamic primary and secondary schools in the bustling Kathmandu Valley and further out into rural areas as well.

Volunteer at an Orphanage – Thousands of Nepali children are orphans, and the numbers have been rising in recent years. ELI has been working closely with a few orphanages in the Kathmandu Valley. ELI Orphanage Volunteers work as activity coordinators: Playing with the children, coordinating games, teaching an English or art class, and giving these children some much needed attention. The children range in age from toddlers to teenagers. This is a great placement for an independent, up-beat volunteer who likes to have fun and wants to make a difference in the lives of little ones!

Volunteer at a Buddhist Monastery or Hindu Temple ELI has been working closely with our coordinators in Nepal to develop these programs. Volunteers have a rare opportunity to teach English at locations near Boudhanath, Swoyambhu, or Pashupatinath.
