Medical placements are available for practicing professional, medical students, and even pre-meds. If you have some journalism background, perhaps you would like to intern with an English language newspaper or tv station. Whatever you choose, when you leave Nepal, you too may find that you are drawn back again and again.  

Intern at a Hospital or Health Clinic– It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of Nepali people, especially women and children, suffer unnecessarily due to a lack of basic medical care.  Working at a hospital or clinic is an opportunity to provide a much needed service and learn firsthand about basic healthcare in a third world country.  This placement is ideal for students who wish to acquire clinical experience, and students are often invited to observe surgeries.  If you have interest or experience in a particular field, let us know and we will try to create a program tailored to you.    

Intern with an English Speaking Newspaper or TV Station - ELI has partnered with newsprint agencies and a broadcasting station in Kathmandu. Because English is widely spoken by the educated, these papers have a large circulation. Your native English skills will be appreciated by those you work with. You may find yourself out in the field reporting, or perhaps working at the editor's desk. If you have graphics expertise, you may be able to incorporate this into your duties as well.  These placements are made based on participant's experience and interest.
