This is Carmen, myself, Mr. Baba, and Mr. Mohammed. We normally didn’t eat with spoons! Usually we ate everything with our right hand, except for rice. The white stuff is the T-zert. (That is one thing I don’t miss!) We always sat on the floor, and ate with the men. Men and women eat separately, and so do children. It was very uncomfortable to eat with the men at first, but they told us we were “guests” so it is different. We did try to help the women with cooking once in a while, and cleaning up afterwards. The roles of women and men are completely traditional, and the men are ultimately in control of everything. Mr. Baba and Mohammed are super friendly and they were very open about discussing religion, politics, culture, and anything else! Dinners were good learning sessions.
