Pre-Departure Advising:

Our experienced staff will work with you to create a course schedule that meets your academic and personal needs. Also, living in a different country can be extremely challenging, we have years of experience living abroad and we can help prepare you for your experience through cultural awareness advising; what to expect, how to deal with it, etc...

Orientation:

Our in-country coordinator will meet you at the airport and help you find your way to campus. Over the next few days you will reveive an introduction to academic life in China, housing, health & safety, emergency contacts and procedures, public transportation, communication, social norms/customs and the historical and cultural life of the Chinese people.

On-Site Coordinator:

Our coordinator, Yan Qi (Meghan) lives and works on the ICB campus and is available for you round the clock. She is expereinced in dealing with student concerns, and will happily help you navigate through the inevitable logistical and personal adventures you will have!

Housing & Meals:

Students will live on campus at the International Student Center. Single or double dorm rooms are available and basic furtniture (bed, desk, lamp, dresser) are provided. On-campus meals are available and the surrounding area provides several low-cost, western and chinese options. Other campus facilities include several computer labs, a library, gym, student center and recreation area.

Excursions and Cultural Activities:

Weekend trips can include the Forbidden City, Tianamen Square and Hou Hai, The Great Wall, The Fragrant Hills and The Summer Palace. In addition we will match you with a peer-tutor who will help you integrate into the student body, meet new people, explore Beijing and improve your language skills. You can immerse yourself even further by volunteering to teach english through our service learning program.

Internships:

ELI may be able to match qualified students with an internship placement in the city of Shanghai following the completion of their semester coursework.
