ELI AbroadELI AbroadKenya inspires. Today, as for decades, nature lovers, wanderers, artists and writers are drawn to Kenya's dazzling wildlife, varied landscapes and rich cultural heritage. The snow capped peak of Mount Kenya overlooks the Rift Valley where millions of zebras, wildebeest, and other large animals make their yearly migration. The Rift Valley is home to a fantastic array of animals including elephants, lions, cheetahs, baboons, flamingoes, and many more.ELI Abroad Kenya and the Rift Valley are also known as the cradle of humanity. Humanoid remains dating back 6 million years have been excavated on the shores of Lake Turkana by the famous Leakey family. Many pastoralist and agricultural tribes still live throughout Kenya, carrying on cultural traditions that are thousands of years old. The Kenyan coast has been home to Persian and Arab traders for thousands of years and continues to be a trading center of East Africa.

ELI AbroadThe Kenyan economy is one of the fastest growing economies in Africa, but many Kenyans are still facing incredible poverty. ELI partners with local organizations in Kenya devoted to bettering their communities to create volunteer and internship opportunities for international participants. The programs are designed to give participants an in-depth cultural immersion experience while giving back to the host community. Opportunities range from assisting at orphanages and street children centers to conservation projects with the Kenya Wildlife Service and community health programs.
